Police are seeking information in the fatal shooting of an Oakland County sheriff’s deputy

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI. – The Detroit Police Department is asking for information from the community regarding the fatal shooting of Oakland County Sheriff Bradley Reckling while on duty.

The incident occurred Saturday (June 22) at 10:48 p.m. in the area of ​​Park Grove and Schoenherr streets when Reckling was standing behind a stolen Chevy Equinox when the vehicle suddenly stopped.

Reckling was one of three auto theft deputies who searched for a stolen Equinox from Red Oaks Water Park in Oakland County on Saturday between 1 p.m. and 5:15 p.m.

Officials said the suspects exited the Equinox and fired two shots, hitting Reckling.

Reckling was transported to a Metro Detroit hospital, where he died from his injuries.
