More on how WWE brings major events to Indianapolis; The website is reportedly charging the highest fees ever

— Last week, WrestleVotes reported that WWE was looking to bring multiple premium live events, including WrestleMania, to Indianapolis, and this morning the company made it official by announcing a historic agreement with the state of Indiana.

While full details haven’t been announced, we do know that the 2025 Indianapolis Royal Rumble will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium on February 1, with WrestleMania and SummerSlam taking place in “future years.” However, WrestleMania 41 in 2025 has already been announced in Las Vegas, and SummerSlam 2025 is still unannounced; SummerSlam 2026 will take place in Minneapolis. If Indianapolis does indeed deliver next year’s SummerSlam, it would give the city two major events in a matter of months, which will be the first time in WWE history. The Hollywood reporter revealed that the site fee WWE will receive for the Royal Rumble and future WrestleMania is the largest payout the company has ever received for these events. Indianapolis received positive reviews from the company due to its easy access to the city, proximity to other major cities, indoor stadium and historically strong peripheral performance during previous Super Bowls.

— Fightfulselect.com reported this morning that a Royal Rumble taking place in February (rather than the usual January) has long been discussed along with WrestleMania in May. The main reason for this is WWE’s desire to avoid head-to-head clashes with other sporting events, most notably the NFL Playoffs and Super Bowl. As a result, it is believed that the Royal Rumble date in future years will depend on the NFL calendar, meaning it could be January or February.

The report also indicated that next year’s SummerSlam in Minneapolis will be a two-night event, and it is believed that in the future, WWE will hold all SummerSlam shows over two nights, meaning this year’s 2024 event will be a one-night event. There have been no reports of WWE also expanding the Royal Rumble to two nights, but the way the event is structured (with a men’s and women’s Rumble match), it would be very easy for WWE to expand that as well.
