Denver man accused of stealing guns from unlocked cars: sheriff

DENVER, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A Denver man has been charged with breaking into several unlocked vehicles and stealing a firearm, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

On the evening of Friday, June 21, multiple vehicles were broken into in the area of ​​Cherry Point Drive. According to officers, the stolen items included two firearms.


The next day, June 22, deputies responded to Lobster Dogs in Denver regarding a person with a gun. When they arrived on scene, they saw the man in question and identified him as Benjamin Michael Yates.

Authorities say Yates was found in possession of a firearm that was reported stolen during Friday night’s events.

Detectives executed a search warrant at Yates’ residence at 7895 Lucky Creek Lane. They found a second stolen firearm and several other items stolen in previous crimes.

Yates was ordered held on a $35,000 secured bond for the following charges:

  • Possession of a stolen firearm
  • Carry a concealed weapon
  • Multiple counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle
  • Multiple counts of theft of firearms
