Behind-the-scenes news on Major WWE Royal Rumble, SummerSlam and WrestleMania Indianapolis deals

WWE

New information has emerged behind the scenes of the massive deal announced today (June 24) that will see Indianapolis host the 2025 WWE Royal Rumble, as well as future SummerSlam and WrestleMania.

As confirmed in WWE’s press release, the company has reached an agreement with Indiana Sports Corp to hold several future events in the state.

The first event under this new partnership will be the 2025 Royal Rumble scheduled for February 1, which will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, with two-day events SummerSlam and WrestleMania also taking place at a later date.

In a new update, Fightful Select noted that a later-than-usual February 1 date for the 2025 Royal Rumble is something that has “long been discussed” within WWE, along with a potential May date for WrestleMania 41 that was also once on the table.

The report noted that avoiding Super Bowl weekend was extremely important in WWE’s decision to hold the Rumble in February.

However, it was also noted that the change is not necessarily permanent and may vary each year depending on when the Super Bowl is held.

As for when we could potentially see SummerSlam in Indianapolis, Fightful Select noted that the 2026 edition of “The Biggest Party of the Summer” in Minnesota will still be the first two-day iteration of the event, meaning it will be Indianapolis’ turn next.

With SummerSlam now looking to join WrestleMania as a two-day event, it was noted that there is no current information about the Royal Rumble also being changed to a weekend-long event.

However, a longtime WWE manager told Fightful that the Rumble event is structured in a way that makes making this change feasible.

Finally, a WWE source highlighted several positives regarding Indianapolis as a host city for future events, including “ease of access,” “proximity to other cities” and “indoor stadium.”

WrestleTalk will provide further updates on WWE’s deal with Indianapolis as they become available.
