Louisville Football ranks 28th in PFF’s 2024 preseason power rankings

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – At this time of summer, most preseason computer models are positive about the Louisville football program heading into the 2024 season. In the latest update, SP+ is just outside the top 25, while FPI is almost inside the top 20.

Now we have a different model that believes the Cardinals will be a fringe top-25 team entering the second year of the Jeff Brohm era.

On Monday, Pro Football Focus released its 2024 preseason power rankings. PFF ranked each team according to their “team spread rating,” which is the number of points a team would be a favorite or underdog over an average team on a neutral field,” according to PFF .

In terms of the demarcation line for the top 25, PFF’s preseason power rankings are comparable more to SP+ than FPI. With a point spread of 6.7, Louisville ranks 28th in the FBS.

As for the ACC, they rank 6th in the league behind Florida State, Clemson, SMU, North Carolina and NC State. Rounding out the top five are Georgia, Texas, Michigan, Ohio and Alabama.

Using PFF’s point spread, Louisville’s projected win total is 7.0 and its strength of schedule ranks 105th. They also have a 75.76% chance of making the bowl game and a 5.31% chance of winning the ACC.
