Indy EMT hit by driver while assisting at Italian Street Festival

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis paramedic was taken to the hospital Saturday after being struck by a driver on the city’s South Side.

One of the paramedics, identified in an IMPD police report as Geovani Galvez, was struck Saturday at the intersection of Stevens and East streets, according to IEMS. This took place near an Italian street festival taking place at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

IEMS says Galvez is “feeling well” as of Monday but is still undergoing treatment.

Galvez suffered multiple broken bones, including a bilateral femur fracture. He has already required knee surgery and will likely face more surgeries.

“I should be at home helping my pregnant wife and children, but I’m here in the hospital,” Galvez said. “I’m lucky to be alive.”

WRTV has reported on Galvez and his family numerous times. In 2022, he provided stem cells to his son to help cure his leukemia.
